Boroughmuir Peer Education

17 December 2012

Whilst most of Edinburgh appeared to be caught up with Chistmas shopping on Princes Street this Saturday, committed peer educators from Boroughmuir High School joined the Fast Forward team in Leith for an in depth peer education training session.

The Saturday programme complemented the work the young people have elected to undertake as part of their PSHE timetable at school.

The day, led by Fast Forward staff, volunteers and the pupils themselves at various points, had a range of activities on substance misuse, alcohol, tobacco and peer education. Highlights involved a disco with the beer goggles and challenging scenarios, mocktails and unit measurements, and body suits with stick on organs looking at damage through smoking and alcohol.

The peer educators also shared games and activities that they are currently devising for use with first year pupils. These included a tricky “Who wants to be a Millionaire” Quiz, a Facebook activity and a Logo game.
