Welcome our new Project Officer for Police Scotland and Smoke Free Homes Projects

17 July 2014

Our new project officer

Please join us in welcoming Laura, a brand new member to the Fast Forward team. Laura will be focusing on two main projects while working with us; Smoke Free Homes and Police Scotland Young Volunteers.

For the first she’ll be working on the dangers of second-hand smoke in the home with primary seven children in schools across Edinburgh and Mid/West Lothian. For her second project she’ll work with Police Scotland to deliver peer education training to young people as part of the No Knives, Better Lives (NKBL) initiative.

From Fife to Fast Forward

“My interest in Youth Work came from being involved with youth project within my local community in Fife. I went from being on the receiving end of community and youth work services to becoming a volunteer and then later a worker.” She also studied Community Learning & Development at the University of Dundee and before starting with Fast Forward worked for Youth First and Fife Council.

Stock Car Racing

One of Laura’s other passions is stock car racing, and she travels not only within Scotland but also to England and Northern Ireland to follow the racing.

When she was 14, she was an amateur stock car racer herself. Here’s a clip of Laura flipping three times in a mini:

She hurt only her finger when it got stuck between the car’s roof and the roll cage.

Why not leave Laura a welcome message below?
