Youth workers know how much fun young people have when they’re volunteers and Peer Educators, but the problem is getting them to sign up in the first place.
Don’t fear – in this promotional video, the Scottish Peer Education Network (SPEN) teamed up with national youth charities Fast Forward and Fixers UK to help explain what Peer Education means and show off how great it is.
Mhairi Smith, who features in the video (and who went from volunteering at Fast Forward to becoming their new Volunteer Coordinator), explains: ‘Becoming involved in peer education has been an incredible experience for me.
‘It’s given me the opportunity to meet so many inspirational people, learn new skills and grow in confidence. You learn so much from the people you are educating.’
The video is open-share and free to use, so don’t hesitate in using it to get potential recruits on board.
Special thanks goes out to The Citadel youth centre in Edinburgh, whose Young Mums Peer Education group was filmed. If you would like to get in touch with them to join that group or volunteer in another way, contact them here.
