Meet Cat & Jodie – Two Young Peer Educators at Boroughmuir High School

27 January 2014

Cat and JodyMeet Cat and Jodie

We are two Sixth years taking part in the peer education programme, delivering information to S1s about risk-taking behaviours through games, quizzes and fun, thought provoking exercises.

Jodie: I was first attracted to the peer education programme when I heard that it would involve creating a game, which for me was another creative opportunity that I really wanted to take part in.  I also thought it would be a good idea to be more involved with the S1s and actually take part in something in my final year in school rather than just sit and do nothing. I think it is important that you get to the know S1s rather just acting like a teacher and it helps them feel more part of the school. I’m really happy I decided to take part in it!

Cat: Peer education has helped us work on our communication skills and be more sensitive to other people’s learning styles and personal issues. It has been a really fun experience and it has been rewarding meeting the S1s and playing the games with them, which also helped us with our knowledge of drugs, smoking etc.

As a final thought, big thanks to Jay, Sophia and Fast Forward for giving us the opportunity to work on our skills and create some great memories in our final year!
