Start a Peer Education Programme this term!

13 August 2013

With the summer hols approaching their end (what a thought!), teachers and youth workers will be thinking about the new term ahead and starting planning for their young people.

Looking for a way to develop some real youth led education with your class or group? Peer education is a great way to engage young people and empower them to think about a topic or theme important to them, create an interactive and dynamic session, especially tailored to other young people in their area, and then deliver it.

Peer education is also a great way for young people to work towards accreditation such as Dynamic Youth and Youth Achievement Awards, Saltire Awards, Duke of Edinburgh Awards and the John Muir Award. Young people can also collect Young Scot Reward Points through their training and delivery.

The Scottish Peer Education Network, operated by Fast Forward, can support you in the organisation of your group and has helpful hints for recruitment, training, resources and accreditation. We can also signpost you to other peer education groups in your area. If you’re interested in setting up a project get in touch and I can pop out for a free consultation to help you get your project off the ground. You can also subscribe to the SPEN newsletter here which gives monthly info on peer education projects across Scotland, funding opportunities, awards and much more.
