Scottish youth work resources launched for Tobacco-Free Generation
30 March 2015
Five Scottish youth work charities have been working together to launch brand new online platform ‘Tobacco-Free Generation’, a one-stop-shop for youth workers seeking resources and information on tobacco prevention in Scotland.
The charities, which include ASH Scotland, Youth Scotland, Youthlink Scotland, Young Scot and Fast Forward, identified the need for youth-work-specific work to be done as part of the Scottish Government’s plan to work towards a tobacco-free generation by 2034. One of the issues identified was that youth work resources and information on tobacco prevention are disparate and that there is no centralised website which holds all of these in one place. And so the Tobacco-Free Generation internet site was born, after several months of consultation with youth workers to collect ideas and resources.
The site, which sits on Youth Scotland’s ‘Youth Work Essentials’ website, is able to offer accessible session ideas and resources for workers and young people, case studies and examples of effective practice, and information on tobacco specific to your area. It also offers information on networking opportunities and support for your group or organisation in developing tobacco policies.
